Unpopular opinion, but I felt the fish was “too fresh” it was a bit on the bland side. That said; great value for money (both on portions and taste of non-raw dishes).
They were accommodating to customer requests as well and definitely worth a try. Be there at least 15 minutes before opening to be in the first service and be reminded there can service was fast, 30-45 minutes.
By far the best experience in Japan! The sushi is the best one I ever had and the cozy ambience gives the perfect touch! I will be back in Japan in three months and I will repeat this restaurant for sure. Can’t recommend enough
I had the best sashimi in my life here. The food quality is clearly 10 points and it’s a traditional cute atmosphere. The line was really long, in my opinion worth it for me because of the quality of the food! The chef was nice but he was definitely tired and not particularly friendly. Also my sister is vegetarian and it’s not good for vegetarian options
Waited in line from 4:30 (opens at 5pm) and were first in the restaurant. Great intimate sushi restaurant with about 15 seats. Ordered the set nigiri + scallops + abalone. Highlight was definitely the fatty tuna! They should rename it to ‘melts-in-your-mouth’ tuna. A little bit expenny but definitely worth it for an authentic sushi restaurant experience!
Super cute and cozy space with some really great sushi!
Shoes off at the entrance, friendly atmosphere and service, and fresh sushi. Highly recommend getting the nigiri set and then ordering more as you go. The scallops are definitely a must, as they’re grilled right in front of you and cooked to perfection.
Nice chilled sake to go with it, strong bites of wasabi, what more could you want.
We had the most amazing experience at Tai Sushi tonight. I’ll start out by saying the wait was long but it was absolutely worth it. I’ll explain…
We had to line up outside while waiting for our turn and during our wait we started up a conversation with the people in line around us and made some new friends. We have to count ourselves lucky as we were the last ones before the cut off.
Once we got in, we were greeted by a very friendly pair. I got the impression they were husband and wife based on their dynamic. They made an effort to inquire where their guests were from and made jokes, asked about things like tattoos or clothing and they really gave the impression that they loved what they do.
Everyone sits around the center, so you’re able to converse with the other diners and the chef and you have a great vantage point to watch your food being prepared. Great for those hoping to make some content for social media. 📸
We orders a recommended sushi set, as well as several rounds of sashimi. I highly recommend the fatty tuna specifically if you like that sort of thing.
All in all it was one of the our favourite dining experiences in Japan based on the quality of the food, the friendliness of the service and the warmly inviting atmosphere.
I would highly recommend to anyone who finds themselves in Kyoto and craving sushi.

After reading reviews saying it has a long wait we decided to wing it and luckily got seated right away. The portions were very generous and the sushi was amazing. Everyone was super friendly. Would definitely recommend.
Such good nigiri! The meat is so fresh it melts in your mouth. The owners are very sweet too and the atmosphere of the place is amazing
